S’Agaro is a small, upmarket residential area on Spain’s Costa Brava. Despite considerable development over the last few decades it resort remains a peaceful and isolated spot that is blessed with great weather and fantastic views, and offers a luxury base for exploring the nearby resorts of Sant Feliu and Platja d’Aro. The development was founded in 1924 by Rafael Maso, a famous Catalan architect.
Things to do in S’Agaro, Spain
The large sandy beach is one of the main draws of S’Agaro, and Sant Pol Bay possesses fine golden sands and clear waters. Sunbathing and swimming can be enjoyed in relative peace and quiet, as the beach does not get overly crowded even during the height of summer. The bay sits on a rocky headland, meaning it is possible to see for miles along the coast on a clear day.
S’Agaro shares the beach and amenities with the nearby town of Sant Feliu de Guixols, an important port and tourist centre. Though visitors to S’Agaro will find themselves making the short journey into its neighbour for bars, cafes, shops and restaurants, they have their quiet and relaxing accommodation in S’Agaro to return to after a busy day.
As well as being the nearest town for most amenities, Sant Feliu de Guixols has a number of historical monuments well worth exploring. These include the Pedralta – the largest rocking stone in Europe, the town monastery which dates back to the 10th Century, and the 1547 L’ajuntament town hall. The town also boasts an excellent morning fruit and vegetable market.

Depending on how far you are prepared to venture, a great number of attractions can be found on the Costa Brava. Sant Feliu and Platja d’Aro are the nearest towns, but the nearest ‘big’ resort is Tossa de Mar, 28km along the coast and popular with both young and old. Options in this picturesque medieval town range from walking and hiking in the nearby mountains to top quality water sports and glass bottomed boat rides on the Med.

S’Agaro is blessed with a warm climate throughout most of the year. The popular period from June to September is particularly warm and sunny, with temperatures reaching around the 30C mark. Winters are mild and still a good time to visit S’Agaro and the many other attractions of the Costa Brava.

S’Agaro is situated just 25km from Girona – Costa Brava Airport (GRO), meaning it is possible to be at your self-catering holiday rental accommodation in S’Agaro within 30 minutes of collecting your luggage upon landing. Flights to the airport can be found from many UK locations through Ryanair, Thomas Cook Airlines and Thomson Airways.
