The only island on Lake Como is Isola Comacina and it can easily be reached by ferry or lake steamer from Sala Comacina. Visit the 14th century Church of San Giovanni and the simple 11th century church of Sant’Eufemia.
The beach at Sala Comacino is within easy reach of your self catering villa. It provides access to the lake for swimming in the warmer summer months. Water skiing, boating, windsurfing, parasailing and kayaking are all enjoyed on Lake Como.
The Romanesque style church of San Bartolomeo dates back to the 15th century although it was partly rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Baroque altar is made of wood and there is a lovely fresco by Carloni dating back to the 18th century. The church also has a collection of paintings from the Luinesca School which are worth viewing.

The small town of Menaggio is just a short 10km drive from Sala Comacino. It is a lovely town for shopping, exploring and sampling real Italian gelato. It has typical Italian architecture with small turreted towers and pastel coloured buildings. Menaggio Country Club is a popular place to play golf as this internationally renowned Golf Club has some of the best scenery in the area.
Bellagio sits in the middle of the two ‘arms’ of Lake Como, right on the tip of the peninsula. The best way to reach it from your villa in Sala Comacino is by ferry, called a ‘battello’. The narrow cobbled streets of Bellagio are stepped and run picturesquely down to the Lake shore between the colourful houses bedecked with window boxes.
