Carvoeiro is a popular choice for family holidays, and as a result has plenty in the way of amenities and attractions. Bars, cafes and restaurants can be found in abundance, with the cuisine on offer varying from traditional Portuguese soups and seafood to international fare from around the world. The cliffs around the town provide some challenging walks, which are rewarded with panoramic views when you reach the top, and the beach is always a popular choice in Carvoeiro, with water sports options available for the energetic.
The position of Salicos, to the north of Carvoeiro, means it can also be used as a base for visiting Lagoa, 5km further north. Lagoa is a maze of traditional whitewashed houses, and gives the impression that it is the town that time forgot. There are a number of historical attractions around the centre, including two 18th century churches and a rebuilt monastery, and Carvoeiro is generally a far cry from some of the tourist developments elsewhere in the Algarve.

The area around Salicos is filled with places of interest, and cramming it all to a week or two can be an impossible challenge. Some of the most interesting destinations are the traditional fishing villages that have yet to succumb to tourism. A great example of such a village is Ferragudo, 9km to the east of Salicos. If you fancy a day trip you can continue east over the bridge to Portimao, where you can watch top quality beach football, surfing and motorcycle racing competitions.

It is hard to find fault with the weather in this part of the world, as summers are warm and sunny, whilst winters are mild and largely dry. Seasonal variations are not as great in this part of Portugal as they can be in the UK, so a vacation in Salicos can be enjoyed at any time of the year. July and August are the hottest months, with a daily average high temperature of 28C.
