Things to do in San Carlos, Spain

San Carlos has a reputation as a meeting point for hippies and foreign tourists, and this is reflected in the towns laid back atmosphere and its bars, such as the long-running Anita’s Bar. A hippy market – the island’s most popular - takes place every Saturday in the Las Dalias restaurant, where you can pick up some handcrafted jewellery, exotic food or piece of artwork from your choice of over 200 stalls.

Also known as San Carles de Paralta, San Carlos is within touching distance of a selection of beaches, including those at Es Cana, Cala Llenya and Cala de Boix. The latter is a secluded sandy stretch that can offer good surfing. The beach at Santa Eulalia offers a variety of water sports, clean waters and is ideal for families.

Nightlife in San Carlos is pleasant and relaxed, though far from hectic. A decent selection of bars and restaurants exist in the area, with Anita’s Bar (which also serves as the villages Post Office) being the busiest. Those craving a busier nightlife can take the short trip into Santa Eulalia – which has an excellent selection of seafood restaurants, or head for the neon lights of San Antonio or Ibiza Town.

Places to visit on holiday in San Carlos, Spain

San Carlos is a great place from which to explore the delights of the ‘White Isle’. Just 6km up the road is the island’s third biggest resort, Santa Eulalia, which is a great destination for families, with its relaxed atmosphere and great beach. Ibiza Town is the administration and shopping centre of the island, whilst San Antonio is the party capital – and both can be reached within half an hour from your self-catering accommodation.

Peak season temperatures on the island can reach well into the mid-thirties, and the Mediterranean climate ensures that winter temperatures rarely drop below 10C. July and August are the hottest months to visit, and the most popular with tourists. Rainfall is generally low throughout the year.

Flights to San Carlos, Spain

Many airlines fly direct from the UK to Ibiza, including budget operators Easyjet and Ryanair. The flight takes just a couple of hours, and touches down at Ibiza International Airport (IBZ). From there it is 30km to San Carlos, which can be made through either coach transfer, taxi or hire car rental. The latter will also allow you flexibility to explore the island during your holiday.
