The town’s origins are clearly roman, although there are strong Moorish influences too. The old town holds a great number of historic and architectural treasures, the most impressive of which is the 15th century Iglesia de la Trinidad. Any sightseeing tour of Sanlucar de Barrameda must start in the delightful main square, the Plaza del Cabildo, a timeless square which stands in the cool shadows of palm trees, filled with excellent little bars and restaurants, which spill their happy customers out onto the pavement. The town is littered with gorgeous little churches, and the Museo del Mar Las Caracolas is a fantastic place to visit, with its displays of all things marine. Of course, being on the edge of the Sherry Triangle, there is a fantastic sherry firm within the town, and the firm arranges weekly tours every Thursday.

The Donana National Park lies just across the Estuary from a Sanlucar de Barrameda property, encompassing a beautiful region of dunes, beaches, wetlands and pine forests, home to a huge number of bird species including the Spanish imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx. You can take a boat across to the park, which drops you off at the start of one of the most extensive walking trails in the park.
