Tuscany is of course prime wine-cultivating country, and Scansano is located in the heart of the Strada del Vino. There are several wineries found close to Scansano where visitors can taste the different varieties on offer and select their favourites to take back and enjoy at their holiday villa.
The beautiful scenery around Scansano lends itself perfectly to watercolour, and it is possible to both purchase canvases and paints in the area, and there are also lessons in watercolour painting on offer. Places to visit on holiday in Scansano, Italy
Grosseto is the nearest large town to Scansano, 30km to the east, and has several sights which may interest visitors including the Medicean Walls, a Cathedral, the neo-Gothic Palazzo Aldobrandeschi and the Roman ruins just outside the town at Roselle.
The small town of Campagnatico, 20-minutes drive north of Scansano, may also be worth a daytrip, especially for visitors in the summer. The town plays host to numerous festivals and celebrations such as Summer in Campagnatico in early August.

Scansano benefits from a climate typical of inland Italy. The summer months are hot and dry, with temperatures of up to 30C in June and July. Winters remain mild although may be a little wetter, but with plenty of outdoor and indoor activities around the area, a holiday home in Scansano offers a perfect escape at any time of the year.
Flights to Scansano, Italy
The most convenient route to self-catering accommodation in Scansano is via either Perugia Airport (PEG), with flights from London Stansted with Ryanair landing five times per week, or the more popular Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) - both are equal distances from the town. Car hire is available at either airport and is the easiest way to travel the 165km to your accommodation.
