Eleuthera is home to 50 beaches, many of which are accessible on foot or by 4x4 only. Beach lovers and artists will be totally enthralled by the pink hues of the sand and the bright blues of the shallow Caribbean and Atlantic waters. Crowds on the beach are almost completely unheard of from an Eleuthera villa, but the further you walk from your beach house, the more remote, secluded and inspiring the beach landscapes become. The rock outcrops, small caves and cliffs of Eleuthera mean that these beaches are not only an ideal place to escape for solitude, but also a visually stunning place for photographers and artists to enjoy the sensational light that Eleuthera is blessed with. Lighthouse Beach, Bannerman Beach and Savannah Sound Beach are particularly special places to soak up the Caribbean sun.

There are some excellent opportunities for deep sea fishing and scuba diving both in the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Eleuthera is known to have some of the best dive sites in the whole of the Caribbean. The Blue Hole, the Train Wreck and Devil’s Backbone are among the most popular and impressive dives in Eleuthera, but for serious scuba divers, the fastest drift dive, known as ‘Current Cut’, where the current pulls you through the rock walls between Eleuthera and the smaller Current Island. Those wishing to explore the underwater world without taking full scuba gear can have a wonderful time with a snorkel and mask too.

Hatchet Cave is well worth exploration from an Eleuthera holiday rental property. Set among the thin countryside of the island. The three mile long cave is beautiful, adorned with graffiti using the natural tar that seeps from the walls. The huge water filled chamber is a beautiful sight, especially when seen from behind the maze of stalactites and stalagmites.

Bone fishing is also hugely popular from Eleuthera accommodation. There are many miles of shallow waters in which to wade and fish for snapper, barracuda and bonefish. Information on the best spots and tactics for catching fish is easily found; just speak to any of the local fishermen for a few moments.

Weather in Eleuthera, Bahamas

Eleuthera’s Caribbean climate means that the island offers a wonderful escape at any time of year. Daily temperatures rend to peak between 26˚C in January and 34˚C in August, and rain is uncommon throughout the year, with less than 7 days on average in November, the wettest month. On the rare occasions that an Atlantic storm strikes this strip of land, it is advised not to head out, as there is little protection from the elements. However, this has only happened once since 2001.

Cheap flights to Eleuthera, Bahamas

Despite the island’s tiny size, there are actually three airports in Eleuthera. Most people visiting a self catering Eleuthera villa from the UK will fly to Nassau (NAS), and from there, regular short hop flights make the brief journey to North Eleuthera Airport (ELH).
