Things to do in Plakias, Greece

The stunning south facing Plakias Beach upon which the village made its name is of course, a huge attraction to Plakias villas. Plakias Beach is huge, and makes a perfect swimming beach. Or, if you simply wish to lie back and relax in the Mediterranean sun, the sand is perfect, and there is a lot of it! There is even a designated naturist area at one end of the beach.

Being in a rural area, villas in Plakias are also a magnificent base from which to explore the mountainous countryside of inland Crete. There are a good range of trails leading out through the olive groves and beyond into the mountains.

The town does provide all that you could need during a self catering holiday, including many excellent restaurants and bars. Plakias is not known for its raucous nightlife, but there are some excellent little bars.

Places to visit from a villa in Plakias, Greece

A Plakias apartment or villa is an excellent base from which to explore Rethymnon and even Crete's finest beaches. Beaches including Amoudi and Damnoni are both within close range, and Souda Beach, one of the most famous is just a short drive.

Those looking for a greater range of shopping or restaurants are well catered for too. The regional capital, Rethymnon, is just 35km along the coast and provided a fantastic range of shops, restaurants and bars, not to mention beaches!

Weather in Plakias, Greece

There is certainly no bad time to visit a Plakias apartment or villa. The summer months, which run from June until September, see temperatures regularly reaching the mid 20's and low 30's (C) and Indian summers are not rare.

Flights to Plakias, Greece

Ideally placed, both Heraklion (HER) and Chania (CHQ) Airports are within easy reach of a self catering Plakias holiday villa. Heraklion Airport is the better airport for reaching Plakias villas, with both a little over 100km away. A hire car is recommended, as it allows you to access much more of the islands hidden treasures. The port in Rethymnon is also just 35km from Plakias accommodation.
