Comano is located on the outskirts of the Tosco Emiliano National Park, an area of valleys, chestnut woods, streams and mountainous terrain. As would be expected, outdoor pursuits are top of the agenda for many visitors to the area, with trekking, walking and hiking all possible along a number of designated tracks and some fantastic views to be enjoyed as you get higher up. Nearby Lake Paduli is also a great area for a walk, ideally with a picnic and a bottle of wine of a summer’s day.
Within the village itself are several sites of historical interest, including the 9th century Church of St George, the well-maintained town hall and the Tower of Comano – the last remnant of the old castle. Near to town is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which was rebuilt in the late 11th century and displays a combination of Renaissance, Baroque and Romanesque architecture.
Comano has a respectable level of amenities for a town of its size, and you will find the locals friendly and welcoming. The town hosts a number of small celebrations and festivals throughout the year, and if you can time your visit right you will be rewarded with an entertaining programme of events and the chance to sample some excellent local dishes.

The village of Licciana Nardi is just 10km to the south-west, and a good destination for a day trip when staying in Comano. Attractions in this medieval village include a 12th century castle and an 11th century parish church. Further on in the same direction is Aulla (20km), the Massa Carrara region’s top destination for shopping and the home of the sprawling Abbey of San Caprasio.
