As an ancient city of over 2,700 years old, Palermo has many historical attractions to enjoy. Beautiful and intricate architecture and décor is one of the main attractions and is most evident in its churches and cathedrals. Palermo Cathedral is a beautiful building with Catalan influences, whilst the cathedral in Monreale (a village just outside the city) has an intricate mosaic interior. Being situated on a hill overlooking the city, the views from Monreale are also very impressive.

Back in the city the Gesu Church has a very highly decorated interior and was built over the course of 70 years between 1564 and 1633. Other buildings of interest you should take time out to visit from your Palermo apartment include the Palazzo dei Normanni; the Zisa and the Cuba Arabic-Norman royal palaces; the Cappella Palatina; and the Catacombe dei Cappuccini. The Archaeological Museum (Museo Archeologico) is an interesting place too.
