Callington is a small ancient market town situated in southeast Cornwall, which is the most westerly county in England. Callington is not a typical Cornish holiday destination, as most people are drawn to the coastal towns of Newquay, Perranporth, Polzeath and Bude for the surfing, or the pretty ports of Looe and Polperro, Fowey, Padstow. Others want to visit the most southerly points of the UK and the surrounding areas such as Penzance, the Lizard and the Isles of Scilly. Things to do in Callington

Callington lies to the east of Bodmin Moor and is an area popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders, nature and birdwatchers alike and to the west is the ancient market town of Launceston. Launceston is a mix of elegant Georgian architecture and medieval ruins surrounded by lush woodlands. Sites close to your cottage include the Holmbush Mine, Dupath Well and Morwhellam Quay. Other places to visit include Launceston Castle, Cotehele Manor and the Tamar Valley Line with its unusual viaduct at Calstock. Canoe Tamar gives you the chance to explore the valley by water in an open topped Canadian canoe. Calstock is well known for organic gardening and the ideal place to pick up local product to take back to your holiday cottage.

The Tamar Valley Trail covers thirty miles and Kit Hill Country Park's four hundred acres includes the highest point in the valley. If you are looking for somewhere special to eat Langman's restaurant is hard to beat. The Springer Spaniel is a delightful country pub and VG Deli in Launceston sells organic local Veg, sun drenched antipasti and flavoursome cheeses.

Weather in Callington

Callington's climate is mild in line with the rest of Cornwall, but if you are travelling to the north Cornish coasts it will feel slightly cool if the north wind is blowing.
