South East Cornwall - the 'forgotten' part of a beautiful county

Cornwall is a terrific and special place for a holiday in the UK. Many visitors think of Cornwall only for its famous beaches and breathtaking coastline. But there are many places of interest throughout the entire county, with each region having something special to offer.

South East Cornwall is often referred to as the ‘forgotten part’ of the county. This simply means it has retained much of its original charm having changed little over the years. And within SE Cornwall are many places of interest, giving a variety of choices to those on holiday.

Mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086, the village of Pillaton nestles in beautiful countryside that is so typical of the southern part of Cornwall. And at the heart of the village is the 12 century church of St Oduplh – well worth a visit – and the Weary Friar Pub, once thought to have been the home of monks building the church.

From Pillaton there is easy access to the stunning coastline of South Cornwall and Devon, the beautiful Tamar Valley or the Moors of Dartmoor or Bodmin. There are great walks, excellent beaches, superb restaurants and pubs serving local produce, and lots of friendly people all waiting to welcome visitors to their county. The city of Plymouth with its maritime heritage and historic Barbican is only 20 minutes by car, or in the opposite direction is the famous Eden Project – a unique grouping of climate controlled bio domes showing how the world’s climates support widely different environments.

And near to Pillaton is the famous golf club of St Mellion with its internationally renowned Nicklaus Course.

A holiday in Pillaton will give visitors an excellent base in which to relax, but will also give a perfect location from which to access all the places of interest that make Cornwall & Devon so popular with tourists, both from the UK and internationally.
