Porkellis is a small rural village situated a mile from Wendron and four miles from Helston in Cornwall. It has its origins in tin mining and agriculture. It can be found at a crossroads alongside the Cober River in beautiful countryside. It has a village hall and 18th pub. Porkellis is to be found amongst rolling countryside in what used to be the heart of the Wendron mining region. Although hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfast (b&b) camping and caravans are all popular modes of tourist accommodation in Cornwall, cottages allow you to make yourself at home and the freedom to explore.

The village cottages are ideally situated for Helston, St Ives, Penzance, Truro, Padstow and Falmouth and are also convenient for the beaches and bays of the south coast and the popular surfing beaches of Perranporth, Newquay, Polzeath and Bude on the north coast. Holiday cottages in Porkellis are also convenient for the Eden Project in St Austell, as well as the many historic buildings and beautiful gardens within travelling distance.

Things to do in Porkellis

Cottage holidays put you at the centre of all that Cornwall has to offer and never more than an hours drive away from any of its attractions. Public footpaths for walking, cycling, nature and birdwatching and horse riding surround the village. The recently refurbished Star Inn sits prominent on the hillside and offers a varied, home cooked menu from fresh local ingredients. It also provides summer barbeques and live music nights.

Helston is the gateway to the Lizard Peninsula with its rugged cliffs and beautiful beaches. Middle Boswin Coarse Fishery is open all the year round for perch, carp, tench and roach. Horse riders are spoilt for choice with five stables in the area incl Poltesco Valley Riding Stables in Helston.

Newquay and Plymouth airports serve Porkellis, as do the ports of Falmouth and Plymouth. Railway stations near Porkellis include Camborne, Hayle, Truro, Falmouth, Penzance and St Erth and Truronian buses operate in the area.
