The old town of Ryde is a mixture of old Regency style buildings and quaint backstreets with small shops. It also has miles of sandy beaches and the second longest pier in Britain which juts out into the Solent for almost half a mile. Ryde has plenty of cafés, pubs and restaurants and is known for its lively nightlife. It is also close to the towns of Bembridge and Seaview, making it an excellent centre for younger visitors. CarnivalThe oldest carnival in England takes place in Ryde at the beginning of September each year. It is organized by the former director of the massive Notting Hill Carnival and is a great fun time to visit Ryde.

The easiest way to reach Ryde on the Isle of Wight is by car or airplane to Southampton Airport which is just 18 miles from Ryde. From Southampton there several car ferries which sail into Cowes. Other ferry services run to the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth and Lymington.
