St Columb Major is a large parish town in North Cornwall in between the surfing capital of Newquay and the market town of Wadebridge. Little Petherick, St Issey, St Wenn, Roche, St Dennis, Colan, St Columb Minor, Mawgan in Pydar (St Mawgan village) and St Ervan border St Columb Major, which is also known as St Columb. The parishes of higher and lower St Columb (St Columb Major and St Columb Minor) are both named after their patron saint, Columba.

St Columb is close to many tourist attractions in Cornwall, which makes it a popular holiday destination for those who prefer to stay in a smaller community. The main amenities in St Columb include the five pubs, Red Lion, Liberal Club, Silver Ball, Ring O'Bells and the Coaching Inn, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway, post office, doctors surgery, petrol station, repairs garage, as well as tea rooms, pharmacy, banks and two butchers. It is central to visit fishing ports like Padstow, Looe and Polperro and for the surfing beaches of Perranporth, Newquay, Polzeath and Bude or walking the coastal path.

A number of streams and rivers flow through the parish of St Columb on the way to fill up Porth Reservoir at Colan, which is has excellent coarse fishing, nature trails and bird watching facilities and adjoins Colan woods part of the Hoblyn Estate. Surrounding towns and villages not yet mentioned but well worth a visit include St. Eval, St. Dennis, Withiel, St. Enoder, St. Merryn, Stenalees and Bugle.

Westworld Raceway is a great place to watch Sierras, Minis, Stock cars, Rods and Bangers racing. Other wonderful attractions in near to St Columb Major include Cornwall's Crealy Park, Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, Springfields Fun Park and Screech owl sanctuary.

St Columb Major's climate is in line with that of the rest of Cornwall, mild and unpredictable, although it will be slightly warmer than coastal areas.

St Mawgan, Newquay and Plymouth airports and the port of Plymouth serve St Columb Major, as does the branch line railway at St Columb Road. National Express has a direct route from London and buses operating in the vicinity include First and Greyhound.
