Things to do on holiday in Seine-Maritime, France

The beaches of Seine-Maritime are very important assets for the region’s tourist industry. There are many great beaches along the ocean carved coastline, and like regions of the south coast of England, there are some remarkable geological features to be marvelled at. Probably the most frequented tourist beach is Etretat, which combines a glorious beach, quaint, half timbered town and stunning cliff scenery.

Due to the long and troublesome history of Seine-Maritime, there are some great monuments to past eras. The Norman castle in Arques-La-Bataille is probably the most impressive historic site, but there are plenty to discover from a holiday rental property in Seine-Maritime.

The flat Caux Plateau in the south of the department is a magnet for cyclists. Touring the department on a bicycle is a superb way to see the sights and discover some of the finest castles, chateau and farmhouses in the department, and gives you an excuse to really indulge in the glorious gastronomy which the area is famed for.

Places to holiday in Seine-Maritime, France

The capital of Seine-Maritime, Rouen, is a historic town offering both contemporary facilities and superbly preserved and presented monuments like the 13th Century gothic Cathedral and ancient town bridge. However, it is the Parc Zoologique just outside the town is the largest single attraction for family holidays.

Dieppe is the most intriguing town in Seine-Maritime. If you have a day to fill whilst on holiday in Seine-Maritime, Dieppe provides plenty of things to do and see. The narrow, cobbled streets have a distinctly Norman feel, and hide a wealth of boutiques and restaurants. The pebble beach at the front of the town is not the best in the region, but for much of the summer, it is lined by a huge funfair which is hard for children and adults alike to ignore.

Seine-Maritime has a similar climate to England, but due to its location is slightly warmer all year round. Summer sees daily temperatures reach the mid 20’s (?C) daily, but in July and August, temperatures during the height of the day can reach 30?C.

Flights to Seine-Maritime, France

Reaching a Seine-Maritime property is relatively easy, despite there only being one direct flight from the UK. If you would like to fly, Skysouth provide a flight from Shoreham (ESH) to Caen (CFR). However, it is probably easier to catch a ferry to Le Harve or Dieppe, or catch the Eurostar to Calais and the TGV onwards to Le Harve or Rouen.
