Silver Sands

Silver Sands stands for pristine white sand beaches, crystal clear water, surf, swimming, sunbathing and beach life at it’s best. Among other nice features, Silver Sands is also blessed with the best climate on the island of Barbados. Being located on the southern-most tip, the easterly trades not only provide for some of the best windsurfing and kite surfing conditions anywhere in the world, they are also responsible for a very mild and almost perfect climate, never too cold and almost never too hot.

The sand on Silver Sands Beach is as white as white can possibly be and over the whole length of the beach, there are conditions to everybody’s liking. While one part of the beach is more ideal for swimming and playing in the turquoise, crystal clear water, the other part of the beach provides excellent conditions for those who like to play in the waves, and that’s where bodysurfers, boogie borders and surfers have their spot on Silver Sands Beach.

For many years Silver Sands had been an almost forgotten, small fishing village at the end of the world. But that was soon to change after we came to Barbados in the late seventies and discovered the area for windsurfing. And it was windsurfing during the 1980s which made Silver Sands known as one of the best wave windsurfing spots on earth.

Articles on Silver Sands in magazines, TV coverage worldwide during windsurfing world cups and it’s unique conditions for windsurfing also drew the attention of the vacationer. And today Silver Sands has established itself as a jewel among the “where to stay” spots in Barbados.

A variety of accommodations can be found in the immediate area, located right on Silver Sands Beach.

Silver Sands Hotel caters to tourist needs with it’s bar, restaurant and also a small supermarket. Silver Point serves tourists and locals with it’s bar and their restaurant. Several other local eateries and bars are in walking distance. The fried chicken and French fries at Chicken Reta’s are a must to experience. Brian Talma’s “action shop” serves the famous barbequeued fish cutters for lunch. And the beach bar “Surfer’s Bay” serves a daily buffet style dinner.

Club Mistral on Silver Sands Beach and Brian Talma’s action shop on Silver Rock beach cater to the windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing clientele with lessons and rentals.

Silver Sands is only a 12 minutes drive by taxi from the Barbados airport, but it is nestled in bare nature where the gentle breezes of the trades and the sounds of the ocean are the only noises to be heard.

Strategically Silver Sands is perfectly located: far enough from anything disturbing and still close enough to everything one wants to be close to.

A major attraction close by is the Oistins fish market, about 4 minutes away by car, where fresh fish is sold daily to the delight of both, locals and tourists alike and fried and barbequeued fish can be obtained from one of the many food stands at any time, Friday night being the busy night of the week known as the famous “Oistins Fish Fry on Friday night”.

But Oistins is not only a cute and laid back fishing village, it also has a big supermarket and variety of stores which contribute to the comfort for those staying in the Silver Sands area.
