Things to do in Siofok, Hungary

A popular reason for visiting Siofok is for its glorious beaches. The extensive area of Aranypart (Gold Shore) sees thousands of visitors every summer, who relax on the sands and admire the views of the beautiful eastern basin of the Balaton. The lake itself is warm enough to swim in during summer months, due to its relative shallowness.

The main beach resort is known as the Coke Club, and offers organised beach volleyball games, swimming pools, tennis, water polo, live music, bars, restaurants and much more. The Coke Club is regarded as the top visitor attraction in the city.

Make sure you also pay a visit to the Siofok harbour, the biggest shipping harbour (in terms of traffic) of the Balaton. From here you can enjoy a pleasure boat cruise, or walk into the middle of town and pay a visit to the City Hall and Cultural Centre. Sites of interest in the city include the Water Tower, Jokai Park and the Rose Garden.

Siofok is all famous for its nightlife, and is known as the ‘partying capital of Hungary’. Parties are always in full swing at the Coke Club, and there are many other great bars and restaurants dotted around the town, with the Bacardi Music Cafe and Cafe Molo two of the most popular. Flort is the main nightclub.

After all that partying you may need to take it easy, and the Galerius Wellness Centre is the best place to do it. This recently opened spa allows visitors to bath in its warm geothermal waters, which offer positive effects for the skin and bones.

The shores of Lake Balaton are home to many small beach resorts, each with their own individual character. Many are located on the Northern Shores, and places such as Tihany and Balatonfured make excellent day trips.

Summer temperatures in Siofok can hit 35C, when many people find it too hot to do anything other than laze on the beach. May is also a popular time to visit, as it is still warm enough to swim in the waters, but cool enough also enjoy walks around the city.

Flights to Siofok, Hungary

There is a small airport located at Sarmellek, an hours drive from Siofok. It is possible to find flights that land there from the UK, but the only city of departure is London. The other option is to fly to Budapest. Flights are more common, and generally cheaper, but the capital city lies 150km from Siofok. From there regular trains run to the city.
