For a 300 year old town, Speightstown has some fantastically modern attractions which mix perfectly with some wonderfully under-exaggerated historical monuments. Some of the most luxurious restaurants, villas and shops can be found in and around Speightstown, which is currently the second largest town on the island. There are a huge range of shops, banks, pharmacies and services within the town, providing everything you need for a truly magical holiday on the most tropical of islands.

Speightstown is known as the major shopping centre in the island, and also has some fantastic artistic and cultural attractions to explore. Within Speightstown, the Gallery of Caribbean Art is a huge attraction, and makes wonderful viewing, whether you have an interest in art or not. The antique shopping in Speightstown is also very well known.

The National Trust organise some absolutely fantastic Nature and Heritage Trails through Speightstown and the surrounding countryside. Local guides take you on walking tours of up to 8km, explaining local attractions and providing a magnificent insight into the history, nature and lifestyle of the island from throughout its most important eras of history. This is an absolutely fantastic thing to do as you first arrive at your self catering Speightstown villa, letting you really discover a bit about your surroundings.

The newly build Port St Charles is not only an open air museum of luxury yachts, but it is also a fantastic place to organise a huge range of water sports from sailing to scuba diving, canoeing to windsurfing.

Places to visit on holiday in Speightstown, Barbados

It wouldn’t be much of a guide to Speightstown without a mention of the closest beaches to the town. After breakfast, it is only a gentle wander to the beach from any holiday rental property in Speightstown. Speightstown Beach is a beautifully flat, soft beach, with fine white sand stretching into the distance, interrupted only by a smattering of palm trees which grow in clumps along the sand. Sitting in their shade in a hammock is a completely unrivalled experience, and one you shall remember with jealousy when you arrive home!
