Things to do in St George, Cyprus

Most of the holiday rental villas in St George are just a short walk from the sea, and the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea make for great swimming. Alternatively you can laze on the beach, or enjoy a snack or meal in one of the cafe-bars that overlook the bay.

The harbour area is where many of the amenities are located, including bar-restaurants that overlook the unspoilt serenity of the Akamas Peninsula. As you may expect from a fishing village, many of these restaurants specialise in seafood, and a good-quality meal is perhaps best enjoyed when watching the sunset over the Med.

The Akamas peninsula is an environmentally protected nature reserve just a few kilometres to the west. Covering an area of 230 square kilometres, the thick woodland and rugged terrain make an excellent location for hikers, walkers and climbers. Other attractions in Akamas include a loggerhead turtle sanctuary and the Baths of Aphrodite – where the Greek goddess is said to have bathed.

With many places to explore near St George, and relatively low-priced car rental, it makes sense to hire a vehicle and explore the area during your stay. St George lies adjacent to Coral Bay, a popular tourist area famous for its excellent stretch of sandy beach. With clear warm waters, water sports and swimming can be enjoyed, and there are also several bars, cafes and restaurants to pick from. Also consider a trip to the quiet resort of Polis, and the well-established resort of Paphos - which is twenty minutes away and has even more tourist facilities, an excellent nightlife and a historical old town.

Weather in St George, Cyprus

St George enjoys a Mediterranean climate. This means hot summers with plenty of sunshine and little rainfall. July and August are the hottest months with an average temperature of 30C, but also when humidity is at its peak. Although rainfall increases between November and March, temperatures are still pleasant during this period.

Flights to St George, Cyprus

The recently-revamped Paphos International Airport (PFO) is around 30 kilometres from St George, and although it is only the country’s second largest airport (after Larnaca) still receives many direct flights from the UK. Thomson Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines and Easyjet are just some of the providers. There are several car hire firms to choose from within the airport, but better prices may be obtained by booked before you fly.
