The fishing in Styria is sensational. The River Drava is among Europe’s finest coarse fishing rivers, with over 50 species calling its waters home. Golf can also be played from a self catering Styria holiday home, with a handful of excellent 18 hole golf courses found in valley bottoms throughout the region. These are especially popular, as many of Styria’s golf courses lie in the same region as the best vineyards, meaning that there are a great range of excellent little cafes and restaurants to frequent after your round.

The ski season lasts from December until March, allowing for many months of excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as cross country skiing through the beautiful, wooded valleys of Styria. Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia, and is well worth investigation from any Styria accommodation. There is a great atmosphere to the town, which is a commercial centre and university town, but it is the wide, red roved streets and shear beauty of the town surroundings that really entice visitors to take holiday rental accommodation in the area.

Styria is a year round destination. May until October sees walkers, fishermen and mountain bikers flocking to Styria property to bask in the Mediterranean style conditions, with daily temperatures reaching around 30˚C for many days in July and August. Winters are obviously cold, although not bitterly so. Average temperatures in December and January hover around freezing.

Cheap flights to Styria, Slovenia

A holiday rental in Styria is just over an hour from Ljubliana Airport (LJU), which receives daily flights from London, provided by EasyJet and Adria Airways. If London is an inconvenient departure point, the Austrian airports are not far from Styria either. Taking a hire car from the airport is a great idea, as the region is wonderfully remote, which makes the whole region open up for you.
