Make a holiday rental home or villa in Trevi, Italy your home away from home

The ancient town of Trevi is the home of just 4,000 people, but this number increases during summer months as it is a popular holiday rental destination and the home of some of the best accommodation options in the Foligno region of Italy. Partly this is due to the wonderful views on offer - as the town sits high up overlooking the Spoleto valley, and partly this is because of the well-preserved medieval centre, which includes over twenty impressive churches.

Things to do in Trevi, Italy

Trevi lies in an elevated position on the lower flank of Monte Serano, and is unusual as its outskirts consist of sharply sloping hills. Umbria in general is well known as a hilly region, but the centre of Trevi (as well as some of the other towns of the Foligno area) is surprisingly flat, hence easy to navigate on foot. A full range of amenities, including some excellent restaurants can be found in this part of town.

The central part of the town is encased within two sets of medieval walls, and it is easy to see how impregnable Trevi was many centuries ago. The inner part is of Roman origin, and the home of many churches. The Church of St Emiliano is arguably the most interesting specimen for its Romanesque design, carved wooden door and impressive apse. St Emiliano is the patron saint of Trevi, and has a festival held in his honour held on 27th January every year – a great time for a holiday here.

Two other recommended stops around town are the Madonna delle Lacrime – which houses the last work by Pietro Perugino, and the Church of S. Martino – the home of some excellent works by 15th century painter Mezastris. The main museum can be found in the Church of S. Francesco, and contains an impressive selection of Umbrian paintings.

Places to visit on holiday in Trevi, Italy

Foligno is another ancient town within the province of Perugia, and though it was partly rebuilt after World War II, it still has a number of monuments and buildings that date back prior to the 16th century. A number of these buildings are churches, with the oldest of them all being the Church of S. Maria Infra Portas – parts of which date back to the 11th century. Foligno is 13km from Trevi and makes for an excellent day visit.

Weather in Trevi, Italy

The weather in Trevi is ideal for a holiday of outdoor activities, with summer temperatures being extremely warm without being stiflingly hot. Autumn and spring are also great seasons in which to visit, as temperatures remain pleasant with plenty of sunshine.

Flights to Trevi, Italy

The best way of getting to your Trevi holiday villa is to fly Ryanair from London Stansted to San Egidio Airport (PEG), near Perugia. Flight time from the UK is around an hour and a half, and the 39km journey should take around 45 minutes by car, upon arrival. The best deals with Ryanair are often found when booking well in advance, with prices usually increasing nearer to the departure date.
