The canals of Venice are one of the main draws for tourists coming to the city centre. Visitors can also take watertaxis across the city and admire some of the fabulous architecture as they go.

The art, culture and architecture on display in Venice is almost unrivalled, with around 400 bridges, and many 16th and 17th century piazzas and palaces. There are many churches, museums and art galleries to choose from – the main problem is fitting them all in to your holiday!

Venice city centre boasts one of the most famous and beautiful squares in the world – the Piazza San Marco. Your holiday is not complete if you do not feed the pigeons in this historic location. Other must-sees include St. Mark’s Basilica, The Campanile and Doge’s Palace.

In terms of entertainment, Venice city centre has much to offer. There is a vast array of great restaurants, with the cuisine mostly fish-based. There are also many bars where you can have an expresso or beer and take in the atmosphere, as well as some great shops for those all-important gifts and treats for yourself.

With so much to do in Venice city centre it is unlikely you will want to venture too far out whilst staying there. However, if you do wish to do so, you are less than 50km from the cities of Padova and Treviso, which both take less than an hour to get to by train.

Venice has a pleasant climate, which reaches a high of around 28C in summer months, and a low of around 7C in winter months. Rainfall is steady throughout the year. As a result the tourist season lasts almost all year in Venice, with many people coming to stay in city centre accommodation all year round.

Flights to Venice, Italy

Venice city centre is served by Marco Polo International Airport (VCE). This recently rebuilt airport was named after its most famous citizen, and is located just a short taxi ride from the city centre. Some of the companies that offer cheap flights, such as Ryanair and Easyjet, fly to Treviso airport, which is located 20km from the city centre, and take around 30 minutes to get there by public transportation.
