Located 14km inland from the popular tourist destination of Lloret de Mar, Vidreras is a peaceful town that works as a gateway to the Costa Brava. Although accommodation options in the area are not found in abundance, what there is, is of a high standard, making it possible to visit the nearby beaches and enjoy the nightlife, but then have a quieter base to return to at the end of the day.

Often also spelt ‘Vidreres’, Vidreras is a much more relaxing alternative than the busy nearby tourist resorts such as Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. The town is situated a few kilometres inland, but the sea and the award-winning beaches of the Costa Brava can all be reached by public transport, though the use of a rental vehicle is recommended in order to make the most of your stay.
The most notable site in the town is the remains of the old castle, which is also pictured on the local flag and shield. Another point of interest is the Church of Santa Susanna, which dominates the town centre, and is encircled by a bevy of traditional Catalan shops. In these shops you can pick up some local produce to cook with when you return to your self-catering accommodation. Agriculture has long been the main economy in Vidreras, and the local produce is of a high standard.
Fishing is the other main source of income for Vidreras, and the best restaurants in town focus on seafood. With Vidreras being slightly off the beaten track you will be pleased to discover that prices are slightly lower than some of the more tourist-orientated towns and cities of the Costa Brava, and the quality is arguably higher.
Places to visit on holiday in Vidreras, Spain
Lloret De Mar has a well-established reputation as a party capital, but there are also other reasons to make the short journey from Vidreras worthwhile. These include several EU Blue Flag beaches, a number of archaeological sites of interest, and the restored 16th century Church of Sant Roma. 11km east along the coast, Tossa de Mar is a slightly quieter but equally attractive option, often described along the lines of ‘Lloret de Mar before mass tourism’.

A Mediterranean climate means that Vidreras experiences long, hot summers and mild winters. Although you are extremely likely to experience good weather when visiting in summer, you should always pack a coat in your luggage; the Costa Brava has many microclimates, and the weather could easily change at any given moment.

Girona – Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is located between Vidreras and Girona, 15km away. This makes getting to your self-catering accommodation in Vidreras a relatively simple task once you arrive in the country, with the taxi or bus fare costing just a few euros. Budget specialists Ryanair have a huge presence at this airport, and operate flights from many destinations throughout the UK and Ireland.
