THE VERONA GREAT SOUTHERN VALLEYS (Valli Grandi Veronesi)
The Verona Great Southern Valleys are some very special plains, situated in the southern part of the province of Verona, in between the courses of the Adige and Po Rivers, in the heart of a highly suggestive rural setting, incredibly preserved from the last 20 years of tumultuous industrial and residential development of the Veneto Region. Here the three regions of Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna come together, offering attractions of great cultural, artistic and environmental interest. Ideal position for visiting cities and places of enormous appeal such as: Verona, Mantova, Ferrara, Vicenza, Padova, Lake of Garda and Delta of Po River. And Venice is only 80 km away! The area is well linked to Verona, Legnago and Rovigo, as well as to the Verona Int. Airport, by the rapid road Transpolesana. Easy access from Verona to the Milan - Venice and Modena-Brennero motorways and, from Rovigo, to the Padova - Bologna motorway.
From 1st of July until the 2nd of September each year, the famous Opera season opens in Verona in the extraordinary atmosphere of the ancient Roman Arena (only 30 minutes drive).
Boat cruises, with lunch on board, are regularly organized in the summer time on the Po and Mincio rivers, which both flow in the area, and allow visitors to appreciate the historic sites along their banks, around the humid area of the mouths of the Po river and there are even some tours that reach as far as Venice through the Adriatic Sea.
The region is renowned for its vineyards and its excellent red and white wines (Bardolino, Soave, Valpolicella, Lugana and Custoza). In the area are also located two of the most prized restaurants in Italy (3 stars in the Michelin Guide). From spring to autumn several street festivals, markets and fairs are organized in the various villages and cities of the region.
Particularly renowned are the antique style furniture factories and stores, all concentrated in the villages of Cerea and Bovolone which both are on the border of the Verona Great Southern Valleys.
